Girls Basketball Shootout at EHT
was filled with great moments!


There were 17 games over four days, starting with an all star game between girls from seventh and eighth grades. The weekend also featured future UConn stars Sue Bird and Asjha Jones facing each other, future Georgia Tech star Niesha Butler scoring her 3,000th career point and a double-overtime thriller between Bishop Eustace Prep and Gloucester Catholic. The Shootout was played at Egg Harbor Township High School. Read on for game summaries.

Friday, February 13, 1998
2:00 White Team 46, Blue Team 29
Pam Wilson had 11 points and Jen Daniels nine for the winners in this Junior High School All Star Game. Courtney Casto had six and Sue Higbee five for the Blue Team.
4:00 Gloucester Catholic 55, Ocean City 25
Kim Schaffer had 17 points while Kris Quinn got 14 points, six steals and seven assists for the Rams (18-1). Jessica Brookes had nine points and six rebounds for the Raiders (11-7).
6:00 Holy Spirit 73, Middle Township 42
Angie Pezzetta paced four in doubles figures for Spirit (9-6) with 17 points. She also had six steals. Miranda Campbell had 15 points, four steals and four assists for the Panthers (12-8).
8:00 Bishop Eustace Prep 72, Egg Harbor Township 61
Danielle Crea had 33 points on 13-for-19 shooting for Eustace (17-2), which shot 55 percent as a team. She also had nine rebounds, four steals and four assists. Ann Slusarski had 25 and Rachelle Wilson 24 for EHT (10-11).


Saturday, February 14, 1998
1:00 Atlantic City 61, Wildwood Catholic 51
Charlyn Hawkins had 18 points, nine steals and seven assists for the Vikings (9-9). Alexis Batten had 17 points and 12 rebounds for the Crusaders (14-6).
3:00 St. Mary's MD 62, Holy Spirit 51
Tiffany Schummer scored 12 points for St. Mary's (22-6). Melissa Dunne had 16 points and four assists for the Spartans (10-6).
5:00 Archbishop Carroll PA 76, Riverdale Country NY 64
Liz Mintzer had 22 points and 13 rebounds for Carroll (17-5). Niesha Butler had 31 points and four steals for Riverdale (17-4).
7:00 Gloucester 64, Mainland 52
Megan Light had 31 points and nine assists as Gloucester (20-0) remained undefeated. Kerrie Delaney had 17 points and 16 rebounds for Mainland (10-8).

1:00 Christ the King NY 81, St. Mary's MD 52
Gillian McGovern had 14 points for CTK (18-0), the No. 1 ranked team in the country. Emily Lipton scored 17 for St. Mary's.
3:00 Vineland 72, Riverdale Country NY 56
Evelyn Spieker had 17 points and nine boards, Kira Jones had 15 points and 13 rebounds and Allison Baruffi made 10 steals for Vineland (15-4). Niesha Butler scored 25 points, including the 3,000th of her career, to pace Riverdale.
5:00 Notre Dame 70, Ocean City 45
La'Toya Hall had 14 points and 14 rebounds for Notre Dame. Megan Fox had 14 points for the Raiders.
7:00 Cardinal O'Hara PA 61, Absegami 43
Trish Juhline paced O'Hara with 20 points. Courtney Rott had 18 points for Absegami.
9:00 Bishop Eustace Prep 41, Gloucester Catholic 40 2OT
Lindsay McNamara made two free throws to clinch the win at the end of the second overtime. Danielle Crea paced the Crusaders with 14 points. Kris Quinn had 21 points for Gloucester Catholic.


Monday, February 16, 1998
1:00 Christ the King NY 66, Piscataway 50
Sue Bird had 27 points, four steals and seven assists for the top-ranked Royals. Asjha Jones, a future teammate of Bird's at UConn, had 27 points and 13 rebounds for Piscataway (15-4).
3:00 St. John Vianney 42, Cardinal O'Hara PA 39
Sandi Haefner had 16 points and 10 rebounds for Vianney. Trish Juhline had 14 points and eight boards for O'Hara.
5:00 Camden Catholic 57, Mainland 50
Katie Caputi had 30 points and six assists for the Irish. Kerrie Delaney paced Mainland with 14 points.
7:00 Sterling 58, Egg Harbor Township 52
Kim Moro had 20 points and four assists for the Silver Knights (17-3). Ann Slusarski had 29 points for the Eagles (10-12).
