The 7th Annual
Girls Basketball Shootout
at Holy Spirit


There were 17 games played over the four-day President's Weekend at a new site - Holy Spirit High School in Absecon. Willingboro suffered its first defeat in a great game with Peddie School, Monica Johnson led Wildwood to a win over Absegami and a near-upset against Cardinal O'Hara, Trenton's Mykeema Ford just missed the Shootout single-game record with 38 points and the Christ the King-Marlboro game was a true classic.

Friday, February 15, 2002 - "Cape-Atlantic Night"
4:00 Lower Cape May 51, St. Joseph 40 box score
Krystle Umscheid scored 25 points for the Tigers (19-2) who made 51 percent of their shots. Rebecca Frederick grabbed 16 rebounds to help Lower to a 39-21 advantage off the boards. Lori Wernick had 10 rebounds, five blocks and four assists. Maureen Shincarick had 12 for the Wildcats (15-6).
5:45 Wildwood 57, Absegami 50 box score
Monica Johnson had 32 points for the Warriors (18-3), including four from three-point range, and made three assists. Lana Harshaw added 10 points and 17 rebounds. Kara Ayers had 17 points and three steals for Absegami (17-5).
7:30 Holy Spirit 65, Mainland 33 box score
Kim Ordille scored 19, hitting four three-pointers, and made four steals for Spirit (20-2). Bryna Batten added 18 points. Shaune McLaughlin scored 14 and had three assists for the Mustangs (12-8).

12:00 Ocean City 43, Cherry Hill East 39 box score
Catie LaRue had 11 points and 11 rebounds for the Raiders (14-7), who had a 44-31 advantage off the boards. Margo Buchalski paced the Cougars (7-15) with 18 points.
1:45 Archbishop Carroll PA 52, Gloucester Catholic 41 box score
Maura McBryan led the Patriots (19-4) with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Erin Bonner scored 12 for the Rams (17-5).
3:30 Egg Harbor Township 47, Wildwood Catholic 15 box score
Katelin Klingert had 15 points for EHT (8-13). Janelle Weiser led the Crusaders (7-14) with eight. Catholic shot just 14 percent and made 27 turnovers.
5:15 St. John Vianney 59, Sacred Heart 53 box score
Cheri Wittlieb paced the Lancers (18-3) with 18 points. Ikea Witt had 23 points and nine rebounds for the Lions (19-3).
7:00 Christ the King NY 77, Marlboro 62 box score
Shay Doran led the Lions (19-2) with 20 points and four steals. CTK shot 54 percent from the floor and had four players in double figures. The Mustangs (20-2) were led by Brina Pollock with 23 points while Sharnee Zoll had seven assists. Christ the King entered the game ranked No. 8 in the nation and Marlboro No. 20.

12:00 Trenton Central 57, St. Peter's NY 53 box score
Mykeema Ford scored 38 points, including 13 of 15 from the foul line, for the Tornadoes (21-1), who rallied with a 14-6 advantage in the fourth period. Tifini Rodgers paced St. Peter's (18-3) with 25 points.
1:45 Mainland 56, Bishop Eustace 39 box score
Shaune McLaughlin had 29 points, including a record 5-for-6 from three-point range, and three assists for the Mustangs (13-8). Dana Fish scored 14 for the Crusaders (15-7).
3:30 Christ The King NY 81, Holy Spirit 70 box score
Tracey-Ann Holness had 20 points on 8-for-8 shooting for the Lions (20-2), who made 65 percent of their shots. Christ the King built a 21-point lead in the first quarter but had to fight off a furious rally by the Spartans (20-3) in the second half. Jen Daniels' 18 led four double figure scorers for Spirit.
5:15 Bishop Kearney NY 45, Egg Harbor Township 36 box score
Jean Clyde paced Kearney (15-10) with 13 points. Katelin Klingert had 14 points for the Eagles (8-14).
7:00 Cardinal O'Hara PA 54, Wildwood 45 box score
Maggie Griesser led O'Hara (22-2) with 14 points while Catherine Scanlon got 13 and Kate Dessart Mager 12. O'Hara, ranked No. 16 in the nation, had to rally from a seven-point halftime deficit. Monica Johnson had 31 points and Lana Harshaw grabbed 13 rebounds for Wildwood.

2:00 Middle Township 50, Nottingham 43 box score
Sharon McAnany had 20 points and three assists for the Panthers (8-15). Vicki Jenkins led the NorthStars (9-12) with 19 points, nine rebounds and four steals.
3:45 Washington Township 54, Northern Burlington 50 box score
Gina D'Amico nailed five threre-pointers on the way to her game-high 22 points for Township (14-8). Erica Davis scored 17 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and blocked five shots for the Greyhounds (16-6).
5:30 Peddie School 64, Willingboro 58 box score
Crystal Goring had 15 points and 14 rebounds for the Falcons (16-5) to help hand the Chimeras (20-1) their first loss of the season. Crystal Langhorne had 16 points, 11 rebounds and four steals for Boro.
7:15 Gloucester Catholic 59, Camden Catholic 46 box score
Kelly Quinn paced four in double figures for the Rams (18-5) with 12 points. Dolores Hiller had 15 points and nine rebounds for the Irish (15-7).
