Lisa Foglio Raider Girls Basketball Player of the Century!

There were many good players during the 30 seasons of Ocean City High School girls basketball during the 20th century. During one stretch, OCHS teams won 119 straight Cape-Atlantic League games and eight straight National Conference championships.

The best of the bunch was Lisa Foglio, a swing player who could play inside and outside with equal success. Foglio was the only Ocean City player to average 20 points per game over two separate seasons. When she graduated, in 1979, her 1,970 career points was a CAL record and is still the league’s fourth highest total.
Foglio is joined by an impressive lineup of players. The balance of our all-century first team includes Stephanie Vanderslice, who held the CAL scoring record before Foglio and still holds the school rebounding record, and Diane Snow, who was Ocean City’s first great player. They are joined by two strong inside players who played over the last 11 years – Joi Johnson and Margaret Rowell. Our all-century team scored a combined 7,570 career points.

The second team features recent graduate Jessica Brookes at center, the high-scoring combo of Robyn Fortsch and Millie Foxworth at forwards and versatile guards Anne Brinkmann and Tricia Hopson.

The third team comprises Margie Bonnett and Coco Vanderslice at forwards, Mary Ann Brady at center and the guard combination of Judy Gayle and Pam McFarland.

Coaching the all-century team is Pat Dougherty, who won 269 games in 14 seasons, including 23 in the NJSIAA tournament.

Picking the best single team of the century is just as difficult as choosing the all stars. But the 1977-78 team, which finished 24-2, is the choice. This team lost only to Philadelphia powerhouse West Catholic in the championship game of the prestigious Seagull Classic and to Edgewood in the South Jersey Group 3 final. The team was led by three members of the all-century team – senior Stephanie Vanderslice, junior Lisa Foglio and sophomore Anne Brinkmann.
